Photo Caption Call – 07/28/10

by Thomas Peters on July 28th, 2010

Remember that story I did last month on the iPad application for celebrating Mass? Jeff Miller actually found a real-life instance of it being used.

I think it makes an appropriate subject for a papist photo caption call:

I should make clear (because this has caused issues before) that I am certainly not taking this as an opportunity to make fun of the Mass, but rather to make fun of the humorous human elements in the situation … so have at it … respectfully!

I must admit that I, too, used an iPad for Holy Mass but it was an emergency. I was preaching the novena for the cloistered discalced Carmelite Nuns in Erie, PA, when one morning, their electricity went out and the morning was overcast, hence, insufficient light in the chapel even with candles. I just got bi-focals last year, so my eyesight is not at its prime. Hence, using the iPad for my notes to preach, I also used it for the Mass readings and for the Missal prayers, since it had its own internal light source. Otherwise, I would only use an official Sacramentary and Lectionary. Ironically, that very same week the secular news reported on the Italian priest who created iBreviary and iMissal

While preparing for outdoor mass, our good priest found the reflective properties of his iPad to be especially effective at enhancing his tan .

Just as he was about to begin the Offertory, Fr. Guido received an e-mail:
“Lose the shades; get a proper altar; and stop checking e-mail during Mass.
I AM”
