Playing on the same team? The USCCB and NCReporter
Jack Smith points out an awkward example of cognative dissonance (or blindness) from USCCB Director of Media Relations Sister Mary Ann Walsh.
Now, to be fair, I love most of what Sr. Mary Ann writes, and I believe she has been a strong defender of the Church in the public square.
But in this case, maybe Sister should cast the net of criticism a bit wider.

Fair comment. I too agree with much of what she writes. I think she missed the boat on this one.
That is fine Robbie, and true. But the question is whether or not she will also take to task the liberal wings as well.
If she does not, then it smacks of prejudice against those with orthodox views. We’ll give her the benefit of the doubt and wait for her to say the same of those actively working to destroy the Church from within (Catholics United, etc).
I don’t know, I think she has a point. As someone who considers himself to be very orthodox how many times have I used that as an excuse to dismiss someone? How many times have I attacked those who I consider to be non-orthodox instead of loving them and treating them as Christ would have me? St. Paul had a point, if we can’t respond in loving kindness than all our orthodoxy is pointless. That’s what I think the good sister was getting at.
As far as the women’s religious groups feeling like “battered wives” because of the Apostolic Visitations: I can’t help notice the difference in reaction by the Legionnaries and the women religious orders.
The Legion of Christ was genuinely “grateful” for their visitation, and they “welcomed” the feedback. To them, they viewed the visiation as a positive step to recovery and renewal.
Meanwhile, women religious groups viewed their visitation by the Vatican as an “Inquisition” and a “witchhunt” with screams about “patriarchy,” “male dominance,” etc.
Am I the only one who noticed this?
