Bishop on Pelosi: “We’ve been patient enough”
I echo this bishop’s sentiments. When it comes to some “Catholyc” pols -”we’ve been patient enough”:
Speaking with LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) after the Vigil for Life Mass last week, Lexington Bishop Ronald Gainer said that the Church has been “patient enough” with outspokenly pro-abortion Catholic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
LSN questioned Bishop Gainer on whether Pelosi should be denied communion due to her public stance as a ‘pro-choice’ Catholic. While acknowledging that it was up to her local bishop, the Lexington prelate did say that “something should be done.”
… “the bishops have an obligation to stand up for the Church’s teaching and when we have such a broad and public consistent denial of our Church’s moral position it would seem to indicate that we’ve been patient enough and something should be done.”
I completely agree. What we’ve tried so far has not worked. There has been no visible conversion of heart, or change of action, from so many pro-abortion Catholic politicians.
It’s time to go to the next level.

Amen Bishop Gainer!
Something needs to be done! I wonder if she thinks it’s alright to receive communion because her bishop hasn’t said anything about it. She should be excommunicated because she is clearly sending the wrong message to a lot of Catholics out there who look at her as their mentor.
What is more dangerous than a wolf in sheep’s clothing? A wolf in shepherds clothing. I cannot judge Archbishop Niederauer but his actions look negligent.
Secondly, I think the Arch. of Washington, DC needs to reconsider his position of deferring to the bishop of the home diocese of the pols. The quasi-jurisdictional authority can be interpreted in his diocese’s favor too i.e. because these folks are causing scandal in DC, then they can be barred from communion here. If their home bishops allow them to receive, then they can fly back to San Fran and receive there.
The bottom line is the bishops are paralysed by analysis – what if the media criticizes them for being heavy handed, what if Pelosi gets the diocese to pay more taxes, what if this, what if that. Meanwhile, the communities are scandalized and led into sin as people think it’s ok to abort and the unborn continues to be slaughtered. Maybe, they’re just cowards – lacking in fortitude and charity.
It’s not so much her not following Church teaching that is offensive. It is that she is consuming Our Lord’s Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in her unrepentant state and secondary to that causing scandal.
It is up to her Bishop to take action with regards to his flock. That being said, when judgement time comes who will be held more accountable? This sheep gone astray or the shephard?
I’m having dinner with him at a fellowship on the 4th! He is amazing. He even went out of his (I’m guessing) comfort zone and celebrated his first ever EF Mass after Confirming people at my (now a chaplaincy, because of his allowance) latin mass community!! And he is very holy. Could not like this His Excellency more.
I agree with Bishop Gainer. It’s a scandal that Archbishop Niederauer has allowed this to go on as long as he has. Maybe he needs a coadjutor.
I agree as well that more should be done. The bishops cannot stand by while “Catholic” politicians do not respect life, and they should not be content to merely stand by and frown disapprovingly. If all pro-abortion senators were publicly denied communion, perhaps some of them would think twice.
I think they should excommunicate her.
