FOD,

If I made it about your father, with the same false accusations, would that hold up in court? How about Obama? Would a false accusation about him molesting boys be allowed to run? Sorry, your "freedom" is simply an excuse to hurt people, hate people, and spread bigotry. No thank you. I'll take truth and love, and Pope Benedict, over anything your selling.

Wrote the following this evening to Ms. Menard:

I was saddened by the art work in your paper which compares Pope Benedict to Tiger Woods. It would be useful for you to issue a written apology in the paper. Further, it might make good sense for your readers to read an article in the paper that defends the Pope, something along the lines of this article from the New York Daily News:

Thank you for your consideration and take care,
Jack Walsh

Well, here is the thing that the media and the modern world doesn't want to hear.

You ready?

Rome slandered us, humiliated us, ruined our reputations, fired us from jobs, took our money, took our homes, raped our wives, killed our children, and fed us to lions. And guess what? We won. Today we hold services in their treasured halls and stadiums where they used to murder us. Why? Because Jesus already won the war 2010 years ago. There was nothing Rome could do to destroy us. Not even Hell may conquer us.

Fast forward to today. Despite all attempts at humiliating us, condemning us, discriminating against us, beating us, spitting at us, and even in some places, violently murdering us, we still win. There is absolutely nothing they can do to destroy us, and all their attempts simply make us stronger. That is what is most frustrating to them, and to Satan himself...the very fact that there is nothing they can do to destroy the Church. It will stand forever, and it will stand because of Jesus Christ and His faithful here and all over the world.

It doesn't matter if there were only a few dozen of us left. After all, we started with eleven frightened men and a couple of women locked in an upper room and then converted over a billion people. The best Man won, and they don't like it, but they can't do anything about it.

So take heart, fellow Catholics, and rejoice when they slander us. For as St. Paul says, while we praise those who hate us, they are simply dumping more and more condemnation upon themselves. Rejoice, for the Kingdom belongs to those hated for His sake!

I wrote to her today. If I get a response, I'll let you know. Thanks for the heads up!

Here is my correspondence:

Ms. Menard:

This attack on Benedict XVI does not depict reality, but rather it is a cheap shot about a situation in which the Holy Father has been a defender of the innocent and in the forefront of rooting out a problem faced by families and institutions around the world.

Instead of commending him for his courage and effectiveness in truth, you have chosen to misrepresent the Holy Father and try to disgrace a man who understands the problem and the need to respond markedly and put in place strong measures to root out abuse past, present, and future.

There are villans in abuse in the Church and in many other settings. You would do some real good if you would research the issue better and bring real light to the situation.

As my father would ask, "Are you part of the help or part of the problem?" By running this cartoon, you have been part of the problem. Please run a prominent retraction and true reporting -- then you will be part of the solution.

Thank you.
